BWT Alpine F1 Team Wraps Up Miami Weekend with Positives and Preparations for Imola
The 2025 Miami Grand Prix presented a mix of challenges and highlights for the BWT Alpine F1 Team. Pierre Gasly secured a valuable point in the Sprint race, while Jack Doohan's Grand Prix ended prematurely due to a first-lap incident. Despite these setbacks, the team remains focused on extracting positives and preparing for the upcoming European triple-header, starting with Imola.
Sprint Success: Gasly Adds to the Tally
Pierre Gasly delivered a commendable performance in Saturday's Sprint, finishing 8th and adding a point to the team's tally. Reflecting on the effort, he said:
“Overall, it has been a difficult weekend for us. At least we are leaving Miami with one point following the Sprint Race yesterday, which was a bit unexpected.”
Jack Doohan also showed potential in tricky conditions, ending the Sprint in 16th. He noted:
“We showed some promise in the Sprint Race, especially in managing the difficult weather conditions, and I have felt comfortable in the car across the weekend.”
On-Track Fun: Drivers Parade in Full-Sized LEGO F1 Cars
Before Sunday’s main event, both Alpine drivers took part in a light-hearted LEGO brick race alongside other grid favourites. The fun pre-race activity brought some laughter to the paddock and gave fans a chance to see the drivers in a more relaxed setting.
While the outcome of the toy race had no championship implications, it offered a welcome moment of levity ahead of what would become a tough afternoon for the team.
Grand Prix: Doohan’s Early Exit, Gasly Finishes 13th
Sunday's Grand Prix proved challenging. Jack Doohan was caught in a Turn 1 clash with Liam Lawson, forcing him into an early retirement. He commented:
“It was a tough end to the weekend for my side of the garage. We were starting from the middle of the pack which always creates a challenge coming into the first few corners.”
Pierre Gasly, after overnight setup changes and a pit lane start due to parc fermé infringements, recovered to finish 13th. He remarked:
“We knew that today’s race was going to be tricky after having had a couple of issues on the car which we tried to fix for today. It was a little bit better but ultimately, we lacked pace.”
Team Principal Oliver Oakes summed up the mood:
“We leave Miami disappointed where ultimately, we lacked performance to be competitive enough to fight for points. Although we did not come away from Miami empty-handed, picking up one point in the Sprint... We have some time now between races to understand where we can improve and come back with some more performance for the European triple-header starting in Imola.”
Eyes on Europe: Imola and the Triple-Header Challenge
With Miami behind them, Alpine now turns its focus to Imola and the start of the European season. Team Principal Oliver Oakes remains optimistic:
“Although we did not come away from Miami empty-handed, picking up one point in the Sprint… we now have time to regroup and come back stronger for the triple-header.”
Doohan echoed the sentiment:
“We have the week ahead to reset and work to prepare for the upcoming triple-header as we head into the start of the European season.”
