2025 Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone Preview
3 July 2025
After a short turnaround from the Austrian GP, the BWT Alpine F1 Team returns to Silverstone for the 75th anniversary of the sport and race. Along with celebrating the team’s home event, this weekend is pivotal as they look to cap off the first half of the season with a strong performance.
After a week of reflection, the BWT Alpine F1 Team is back at the spiritual home of Formula One: Silverstone. It was a difficult race for the team in 2024, with Gasly not starting and Esteban Ocon struggling to work his way through the field, finishing in 16th. For their home race this year, the team is aiming to go at least six places better and bring both cars into the points.
Looking Back: Agony in Austria
There weren’t many positives to take away from Austria apart from Gasly’s impressive qualifying effort that saw him start on the fifth row last weekend. Trouble on the first lap between Antonelli and Verstappen promoted Gasly to sixth, but from there, the weekend slipped away. Traffic, dirty air, and an alternate strategy made progress difficult, with the cars eventually finishing P13 and P15.
Silverstone Track Profile:
The home of British motorsport and host of the first-ever Formula One Grand Prix in 1950, Silverstone remains one of the sport’s most iconic and demanding tracks. Known for its fast, flowing layout and legendary corners like Maggotts, Becketts, and Copse, the 5.891km circuit tests aerodynamic balance and driver precision at every turn. With high-speed sequences, unpredictable weather, and strong tyre degradation, strategy and qualifying performance will be crucial in setting up a successful race weekend.

Pierre Gasly:
After last weekend’s difficult Sunday, Gasly is looking to focus completely on the Silverstone weekend,
“Now we focus straight away on Silverstone for Enstone's home race, which is a short drive away. The British Grand Prix is always a brilliant event with a huge capacity crowd.”
He’s also looking to make sure that he is able to give back to the hardworking team back at Enstone.
“I know there's going to be a lot of team members in the grandstands all weekend who will be able to see their hard work on track and I'd like to be able to reward them with a good showing."
Franco Colapinto:
Franco is looking to make time on track count this week and put the difficulties of the Austrian weekend behind him.
“The weekend in Austria was challenging. We made some positive steps between Practice and Qualifying, however, the grid is so tightly packed every single detail on track counts and we were on the wrong end of not making it through Q2.”
He’s looking forward to being able to get on track at the place of his first F1 experience for FP1 last year:
“I am looking forward to getting out on track at Silverstone, where I had my first Grand Prix outing for Free Practice 1 last year. The circuit is a famous one on the Formula One calendar and one I'm sure every driver looks forward to with its high speeds and iconic corners.”
What to Watch For at the 2025 British Grand Prix:
-
Home Crowd Energy: Expect a charged atmosphere as thousands of fans turn out for local favourites and teams based in the UK—including Alpine’s own Enstone crew.
-
Upgrades on Display: Many teams traditionally bring major mid-season upgrades to Silverstone. Look out for aerodynamic changes as the grid adapts to recent FIA technical directives.
-
Tyre Degradation: The fast, high-load corners put huge stress on tyres—expect strategy to be shaped by managing wear, especially in long stints.
-
Qualifying Crucial: With clean air making a big difference through Silverstone’s high-speed sections, Saturday grid position will play a major role in Sunday success.
-
Alpine’s Response: After a tough Austrian GP, can Alpine find more pace and consistency on home soil? Watch for how Franco Colapinto adapts to Silverstone in an F1 car and whether Pierre Gasly can return to the points.
